sought to demystify the Financial Implications of Slavery and the negative stereotypes placed on families across the African diaspora.
Our Fight Against Socio Economic Injustice
Kim founded FISH (Financial Implications of Slavery Heritage) with other global leaders who share FISH began as a national call to action. Today, it has grown into a global mission centered on the African diaspora and the fight against socioeconomic injustice.
Across the diaspora, communities continue to face systemic barriers to education, healthcare, and economic opportunity. FISH exists to confront these inequities head-on—mobilizing voices, amplifying stories, and building bridges that connect resources with those who need them most.
This is not only about addressing poverty and privilege; it is about reclaiming dignity, honoring heritage, and creating pathways that allow every generation to thrive.
Our Founder
Kim Bourne founded FISH (Financial Implications of Slavery Heritage) alongside other global leaders who share a commitment to truth, justice, and economic repair.
Born of Barbados’ enduring legacy, Kim’s vision is rooted in a place both unique and deeply symbolic. Barbados was one of the first ports of entry for enslaved Africans in the Caribbean and became a model for plantation economies across the world. The island’s history reflects both the brutal realities of slavery and the extraordinary resilience of its people.
From this foundation, Kim brings forward a mission that links history to present-day inequities. In collaboration with leaders across the African diaspora and beyond, she advances FISH as a global platform to address the lasting socioeconomic impact of slavery.
Barbados’ story is not just one of survival—it is a beacon for what can be achieved when voices unite to confront injustice. Kim’s work honors that legacy, while mobilizing a worldwide movement to create new possibilities for communities everywhere.
